A Sweet Week...

We had some nice warm days and some nice cool, rainy days this past week.  I am tickled that by just working in small increments of time I was able to get all of the flowerbeds in front of our house cleaned out and some of my Elephant Ears transplanted into another bed.  The goal for this coming week is to start working on all of the flowerbeds out by our driveway.  Some new rose bushes may be in the plan.

The cool windy rainy days allowed for curling up in my comfy chair and finishing a second twisted crochet afghan to go with a His & Hers set and also to start on a new knitted project.  It has been a while since I knitted but once I got started it was like I had never left.  I also found some time to do another free motion machine embroidery doodle.  It will probably be a pillow front for the daybed sofa that now resides in the living room.  I'll leave that story for another post.

Needlework Tip: When working with a larger piece, put it in a pillow case. It is easier to handle and keeps your project clean.

January's End...

I don't know about you, but January flew by for me!  Decluttering and organizing have become my new hobby and I don't seem to be making a dent.  I have read if you want to change your life, you need to change your daily habits. Old habits are hard to break but I am trying to spend less time on Face Book and more time in the kitchen and taking care of house duty chores.  Our home has been neglected after years of crafting.

My hoard of fabric is slowly getting organized into three drawer clear plastic carts so maybe I will be able to find that special piece of fabric when an idea pops into my head.  I'm still working to organize my workshop.

I did manage to finish a crocheted Twisted Cable Afghan throw to keep us warm.  Thank you to Pinterest for the inspiration.  There is nothing more soothing than sitting in my comfy chair and doing quiet needlework.

We have a bird theme going on in our home.  Years ago I painted a picture of Canada Geese that sits on our fireplace mantle.  Recently I found a pattern by Raven's Haven for a sweet Canada Goose so I stitched, stuffed, painted and made my version of her pattern. It makes a sweet companion piece.

The necklace is a free style hand cut heart made from paper clay and attached to a crochet twine chain.

August already...

Where has the time gone? My goodness, it's hard to believe it is August already and I am still working on trying to organize and redo our home. Most of my creating time has been put on the back burner but I try to find some time for needlework.  This is a Granny Square that I did yesterday.  I love the way it turned out.  Now I only need 143 more for my project...

Crochet and Life

As I sit here in the stillness of the morning, doing my needlework, I think how our lives are like a beautiful piece of crochet.  Number one, there has to be instructions.  We find that in the crochet pattern or instructions in the Bible for us.  Crochet needs a firm foundation to build on.  We need a firm foundation to build on, our Heavenly Father.  If we are not paying attention, we can make a mistake in our stitches that messes up the whole pattern. Same thing in real life.  When we make a mistake in crochet, we have to go back and correct it to the best of our ability. Yarn is very forgiving.  Same thing in real life.  Correct that mistake if possible.  God is very forgiving and all we have to do is ask. Each intricate stitch in crochet weaves together to make the finished piece.  So do the days of our life...

Experienced?...

I finished this delightful Anastasia afgan kit from Herrschner's.  I taught myself to crochet many years ago but only did basic stitches.  About half way through this project I read that this is for EXPERIENCED crocheter's.  Hmmm, now I guess I am experienced because this was easy to do and so much fun. 

Crochet/Knit/Needlework is my comfort and my escape in my spare time.  I always have a pair of knitted socks in the works, but I'm thinking it is time for another crochet project just in case I should run out of something to do :)

It's beginning to get interesting...

 I usually have some sort of needlework going at all times, resting on my foot stool, just waiting for a few minutes of spare time to slip away into my quiet place and refresh; my escape from the real world.  I purchased an afghan crochet kit recently and could not wait to get started on it.  This one looks really complicated.  I taught myself to crochet many years ago and most of my projects have been simple. I was surprised that the center section worked up as quickly as it did and was fun and easy to do.  Now, the trim around the edge is beginning to get interesting...

I am enjoying crocheting rag rugs.  I made this one for our bathroom recently.  Never did like it!

 

Soooo, I ripped it up and made the one below.  I had about 5 inches of fabric left.  I was afraid I was going to run out of fabric.  I like the shabby chic with scallops much better. Once it is washed and blocked I will really love it!
