Where does the time go?...

Where oh where does the time go? On July 1st I decided to reclaim my outside workshop. Below is the mess I saw when I opened the door. Phase 1 was to get rid of my two kilns, firing accessories, several gallons of ceramic and porcelain slip and glaze, slip pump and a few molds that were stored in this room. With limited mobility, it took me three weeks to gather up these items. I am amazed at what can get done in small increments of time. I am happy to report that those items are now gone. It took three young people to load all that stuff in just 20 minutes.  Now Phase 2 begins along with dealing with 104 degree temperatures.  It's going to take a while...

Grateful for Sinks and Socks and Such...

Our kitchen drain and our washing machine drain are connected.  The water had been draining slower and slower until it came to a screeching halt about two weeks ago.  So, we have been basically *camping out* in our own home for two weeks until us *do it yourselfers* got the problem solved.  It took two and a half days of digging and repairs, but I am a happy camper again.  Have you hugged your kitchen sink and washing machine lately?

While I had all of the *stuff* out from under our kitchen sink, I decided to paint inside the cabinet and put down vinyl tile on the bottom of the cabinet.  Another project marked off my to do list!

I also added a French Market Bag to my utility room to hold onions and potatoes

I am happy to report that I am half finished with the mate to the other gray sock from last week's post. Half finished in only one week!  I hope the other half goes as fast and won't take two years to finish.

The Hot Texas Summers...

I love working outside in my flower beds in the Spring but all too soon the hot Texas Summer weather forces me inside to the comfort of air conditioning and some much needed creating time.

I have been working on reorganizing and painting furniture in my studio/nest.  This is the messiest room in our house and it is taking what seems like *forever* to redo.  One of the things I did was label my computer cords and wires with those little tabs that come on bakery and produce bags from the grocery store.  They make great labels for attaching to all sorts of things.

Under Day Bed Storage

I have been working in my studio/nest since January, redoing, reorganizing, painting furniture and just general mayhem.  I purchased four Rubbermaid canvas underbed storage zippered containers online from WalMart.  I LOVE them and they fit nicely under my Day Bed.  They are labeled and hold Fabric, Utility Fabric, Sewing Notions/Ribbon/Twine and Tools.  So far I have unearthed two large bins of UNFINISHED DOLLS, and three large boxes of my sketches and patterns dating back to the 1980's.  Holy Moly and I still have more digging out to do...

Computer Workstation Redo

I have two computers in my studio/nest.  One I use to make my patterns, do graphics and my online work...

 

and one on the other side of the room that I use for making my online videos and home movies. I love doing home movies of all of our projects and renovations.

 

 

I painted both of the desks Country White and moved them both to one location. I like this arrangement much better and it is much more convenient.

 

 

 





One project down...several more to go!

 

 

 

 

This was really a fun project, labor of love.  Now I can't wait to start getting my sewing supplies organized!

It took me long enough!

We have lived in our home for eighteen years.  Any thing that did not have a home ended up in my closet.  I have not seen the floor in my closet since I redid the flooring throughout our house about three years ago.  I have been working on my closet for the past 2-3 weeks; sorting, trying on clothes, finding treasures, organizing, first round purge.  It's nice to finally be able to walk in my small closet and pick out something to wear instead of having to wear what was hanging right next to the door that I could easily reach.

I have a full length mirror on my door and a couple of hooks.

 

All of my clothes were already on plastic hangers.

I hate wire hangers!

Some of my hats are on a hat rack that I had Poppa build for me

several years ago; just a tall wooden dowel on a base

and with another base at the top for the hats to rest on.

 

I purchased canvas bins from Walmart to

organize my shoes and one that holds my

mini post office with shipping supplies and a

postal scale.

 

Poppa added a shelf over the center rods that seperate

my side of the closet from his.  More canvas bins

for storage.

 

I made clothes dividers out of cardboard and cd sticky labels

and labeled them with a permanent marker.  Now I know

where to hang my things when I finish the laundry.

 

A few plastic shoe boxes that hold more than just shoes.

 

This 3-Drawer Cart from Walmart fits nicely on the top shelf

and stores purses and cloth hats/sun bonnets and I even have

one drawer that is empty!

 

More canvas bins hold extra towels for the dogs/cats and

more pet supplies.

 

Can't wait to start on my next project!  I wonder what it will be!!

Maybe Poppa's side of the closet?  He has already told me to

leave his side of the closet alone.  However, he is not *always*

in the house because of never ending outside yardwork and chores.

Poor Poppa...gradual changes and he will never know...  :)
